UPCOMING LOCKDOWN DRILL
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of our ongoing commitment to student and staff safety, we want to inform you that our school will be conducting a scheduled lockdown drill on Tuesday, March 17th. This drill is part of our comprehensive school safety plan and follows the “I Love You Guys” Standard Response Protocol, which is used by schools and first responders nationwide.
The purpose of this drill is to help students and staff practice the procedures we would use if there were ever a potential threat inside or near the building. Practicing these procedures in a calm and structured setting helps everyone feel more prepared and confident. Today, our elementary students had the opportunity to learn, discuss and read about the lockdown procedure. The high school students and staff will engage in this learning on March 13th.
During the lockdown drill, the following steps will occur:
Classroom and office doors will be locked.
Lights will be turned off when appropriate.
Students and staff will move away from doors and windows.
Students will remain quiet and follow staff directions.
The drill will be supervised by school staff and administration and law enforcement.
We want to assure you that this is only a practice drill. Staff will review expectations with students beforehand, and the drill will be conducted in an age-appropriate and supportive manner. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge while maintaining a calm and reassuring environment.
After the drill, teachers will provide time for students to ask questions and discuss any concerns. If your child experiences anxiety related to safety drills, please feel free to contact us so we can provide additional support.
We also encourage you to talk with your child about school safety in a positive and reassuring way. If you have any questions about this drill or our safety procedures, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
